Most Asked

Is there a minimum or limit to how much I can donate?

There is no limit to how much you can give through DGB. However, DGB will only accept gifts over $25 due to processing costs.

What if an organization I like is not listed?

Anyone at anytime can contact the DGB team and submit a new organization for consideration. While the organization will need to be in Bangladesh or have a project in the country, we can consider nearly any organization that has charitable objectives, including for-profit organizations that have charitable projects. Submitting an organization to undergo our due diligence process to be placed on the portal is a one-time cost of $500. We cannot guarantee that said organization will pass the due diligence procedure, but we will make every effort to assist them with the process.

What is involved in CAF America’s due diligence process?

CAF America is required by the IRS (the United States’ tax authority) to do an expenditure responsibility or an equivalency determination on any foreign charitable organization that wishes to receive tax-effective donations from U.S. donors. These complex procedures involve checking the registration status of the organization, its governing documents and procedures, background checks on board members and senior staff, along with independent news searches. CAF America complies with all relevant U.S. laws including the PATRIOT Act, Executive Order 13224, HR4 (the Pension Protection Act), the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and the U.S. Treasury Department Guidelines for international grantmaking.

We work with organizations throughout this process in every attempt to see that they become eligible.

About DGB

What is DGB?

The DIAgives Bangladesh Alliance (DGB) is a philanthropic initiative designed to engage with the Bangladesh diaspora and provide them with an easy, safe, and effective model to give back to Bangladesh. DGB is a partnership led by CAF America with USAID and Chevron as instrumental partners. By providing a solution for international, tax-effective giving, DGB enables members of the diaspora to give in a concerted manner to support a variety of causes and geographic areas.

What are the SDGs?

Starting in 2016, the Sustainable Development Goals guide development efforts worldwide. Covering a wide array of social, economic, and climate issues, the SDGs have been embraced as a means to develop concerted efforts and partnerships. CAF America, USAID, and Chevron are all committed to achieving these goals -- with USAID calling for the Sustainable “Diaspora” Goals. As the government of Bangladesh has also begun tackling these ambitious goals, DGB will organize our recipient organizations by SDG rather than by cause.

Organizations

What type of organizations will I find on the Portal?

Giving

How do I know my donation will go to the organization I want?

While donors are able to give suggestions as to which organizations they would like their donation to support, they cannot legally direct or control the use of the donated funds. Donations to CAF America become the property of CAF America, and CAF America has ultimate control, authority, and discretion with regard to its assets. If CAF America is ever unable to make a grant per the recommendation of the donor, staff will reach out to the donor to explain the reasoning and ask for an alternate suggestion.

Is there a minimum or limit to how much I can donate?

There is no limit to how much you can give through DGB. However, DGB will only accept gifts over $25 due to processing costs.

What happens if I choose the endowment option?

Selecting the “endowment” option on the portal means that your donation will not be immediately granted out. Instead, these gifts will be pooled into a fund that will accumulate interest. At a later date, these returns and most of the principle will be granted out to DGB's organizations.
